After planting our crocus bulbs in November we were very excited to see them fully grown in February. Spring is the season most plants begin to flower in.
First Class were very busy in the lead up to Valentine's Day making and painting clay pinch pots. Our parents were very happy when we gave them to them as a Valentine's gift.
First Class were very busy in the lead up to Christmas this year. We learned all about the crib and the Christmas story, we made decorations from recycled goods and we rehearsed and performes our Christmas play.
We were learning all about plants this week in science. We learned that plants need water, air, light and soil to grow. We decided to plant our own bulbs, give them everything then need to grow and see if we will have flowers in spring. We planted crocus bulbs in a window box using compost. We put the window boxes on the window sill where they could get light and we watered them. We're looking forward to watching them grow.
Everyone was very proud here at St. Mochulla's this week when we were presented with the Irish Flag in honour of the anniversary of the 1916 Rising which is coming up next year. To prepare for this event our teacher told us about the 1916 Rising, we listened to and sang Amhrán na bhFiann and we made our own flags. We also had the very important job of standing in the guard of honour on the day. Our grandparents also came in for Grandparents Day and really enjoyed the ceremony as well.
